As women, I believe we’re all entitled to have a bad day. There are certain periods (pun intended) when we’re cranky, moody, and just not fun to be around. We have bad moods.
But there’s a big difference between a bad mood and a bad attitude.
A bad mood may lead to an occasional bad day sprinkled here and there. A bad attitude is having a bad mood 365. All day. Every day. In this case, you need an attitude adjustment because,
A woman with a bad attitude is every man’s fear.
Solomon even wrote about it here: It’s better to live on the corner of a roof than to share a house with a quarrelsome wife. Proverbs 25:24
and here:
It’s better to live alone in the desert than with a complaining wife. Proverbs 21:19
When we have a bad attitude, it affects everyone we work with, everyone we live with, and everyone who comes within a 10-mile radius of us.
A bad attitude is just a sign that you’re fed up with disappointment, and you’re really craving love and acceptance. But at the same time, you scare everyone away who wants to give it to you.
No one knows this better than the men who attempt to love you.
In your mind, maybe you’ve justified your attitude as you being you:
“I’ve always been this way,” or “I’m not a people person.”
For your information, everyone else takes it personally; they perceive it as rejection. No one, not even you, likes to be rejected. Yet, the more you sow it the more you’ll reap it.
Enough already! It’s simply not cool to wear a cross and a Jesus t-shirt while bearing the face of the grinch who stole Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.
Something has to change.
When we’re on the inside looking out, it’s kind of hard to tell if we’re “that girl.” To be sure, here’s a test.
If you’ve ever been told that:
- You complain about everything
- No one or nothing can make you happy
- You’re always angry or sad
- You’re critical and judgmental of everyone else
- You’re merciless: it’s your way or the highway
It’s likely that you need an attitude adjustment.
We were all created by love to give love. But sister you’ll never be able to give OR receive love if you need an attitude adjustment. That’s like trying to put gas in a car while keeping the tank closed. You need gas to make the car go, but gas will never get to the engine if you don’t open the tank.
You can ignore me and pretend that it’s everybody else’s fault, but it comes down to two choices: 1. You can continue to reject love, while getting used to the thought of being alone, or 2. You can reject the bad attitude and get used to receiving love.
The sooner you follow the steps to adjust your attitude, the sooner you can get some gas for your engine.
- Be honest. Admit if you have a problem
- Get to the root of your attitude. When you get to the root cause of your attitude, you can begin to work on forgiving and healing.
- Start a gratitude It’s hard to be mad at the world when you’re grateful. Although this sounds so simplistic, it actually works. All of us has something to be grateful for and the more you reflect on your blessings, the happier you get.
- Envision yourself with a new attitude. Close your eyes and imagine being that girl who embodies what it really means to love. How does she carry herself? How does she talk to people? What’s her facial expression when she walks into the room?
- Take the focus off yourself and your problems by giving. Research has shown that giving to others actually makes the giver feel happier than spending money on yourself. Freely give your time, services, and money to those in need.
Remember, I’m here for you. Call me.
